It’s been an incredible joy to get to teach the kids here! It makes me so happy to see them learn and make progress! Chloe and I have been meeting with the kids in the mornings to teach them. When we meet, we each work with one or two kids at a time. We’ve been teaching them English vocabulary and how to read and write in English. We also come up with different games and ways to try to make learning fun for them! They’re all very competitive, so the games get them focused and trying their very best! They’ve made great progress, but not all of them are up to the level they need to be for their grade. The kids went back to school on September 3rd, and we will continue to work with them on their English every weekday.
One of the things that God has really put on my heart is to do a daily Bible lesson with them, so we started doing that this week! Today was the first day for the lesson, and it went really well! Christine, the house-mom, translated for us so the kids could understand better! I had prepared for the Bible lesson, but God guided it! We talked to them about Jeremiah 29:11-13, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” It was neat how the Lord gave us more questions to ask and more thoughts and ideas to teach the lesson along the way!
Also, one of the things that God has put on Chloe’s heart is to pray with the kids in the evenings before their bedtime, so we started that today also! We started with The Lord’s Prayer, and a couple of them knew most of it! It was precious hearing that prayer in their Zambian accents! We are hoping to help them get in the habit of praying each and every day and throughout their day. We are also praying that they will become more comfortable praying out loud in front of others.
What a blessing it is to be a part of their lives and a part of what the Lord is teaching them! May these kids grow in their love for God, and may God give them wisdom and guidance! God bless these sweet children, and may they be a blessing to so many around them!
